AVSI Case Studies:

National Express

AVSI produced the first web site for National Express coaches over ten years ago.  This was one of the first e-commerce sites in the UK and won awards for the design, ease of use and technical innovation.

The work involved integration with the existing back-office system used to support terminal and Prestel based reservations by agents and tele-sales staff.  A flexible and expandable messaging system was developed that is still in use today, providing a fast and reliable connection between systems significantly different from those in use at the time.

Careful planning of the enquiry and booking process provided an easy to understand and use site, generating very positive end-user feedback from both UK and overseas customers.   Detailed monitoring of customer use of the website - over several years - resulted in numerous incremental developments to further optimise operation and maximise bookings.   Revenues from the site significantly exceeded expectations for many years while AVSI developed innovations kept fraud and misuse to minimal levels.

We have had a continuous relationship with National Express through innumerable developments from the original site and recently handed over the public site to their internal developers and support staff.   We continue to be involved with the public website in an advisory role and still develop and support their agent website.
